IDB 2018

    








International Day for Biological Diversity 2018 was celebrated by Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board at Daporijo, Upper Subansiri district on 22nd May, 2018 with the theme “Celebrating 25 years of Action for Biodiversity”. The day long programme was organised with the full participation of the Biodiversity Management Committees of 23 villages in the district. The programme organised as the part of celebration are as follows;

1) Painting competition for Schools children:

Painting competition on the theme Biodiversity Conservation, Wildlife, Aquatic Life, and Biodiversity Hotspot was organised at Iman Memorial Girls Academy, Daporijo on 21st May, 2018. For the competition students were categorised in the following group;

i). Sub-Junior category (Class III & IV)

ii). Junior category (Class V & VI)

iii). Senior Category (Class VII & VIII)

75 students from 11 schools participated in the competition. Prizes along with certificated and mementos to the winners and runner-up were given away on 22nd May, 2018. Participation certificates were also given to all the participants.

    

         

2) Inaugural session of IDB-2018:

The inaugural programme of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2018 was held at Rijo Conference Hall, Daporijo. The Deputy Commissioner, Upper Subansiri district, Shri Danish Ashraf, IAS, attended the programme as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest emphasized the need on conserving every single species. He also talked on the issues to mitigate the sustainable utility of the Bio-resources. Taking the examples of Biodiversity conservation by the Local communities in and around Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary, he requested the people of Daporijo to learn from them.

The Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board, Sri Tapen Siga while speaking on the occasion requested the general public to keep on balance in utilising the bio-resources. He requested the local people to be a responsible citizen in maintaining the Biodiversity that will also help in promoting ecotourism and for their economic upliftment.

Sri Dusu Shra, IFS, Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board in his key note address briefed on the Celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity Day all over the world and the motive of celebrating the day, since the inception of Convention on Biological Diversity.

This year Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board felicitated Mr. Mudang Challiang, Chairman, Biodiversity Management Committee, Hong Niitii, Ziro for achieving State Silver Medal-2017 for his contribution towards Biodiversity Conservation. Biodiversity Management Committee, Hong Niitii, Ziro was also felicitated for winning Indian Biodiversity Award, 2016.

The Chief Guest along with other dignitaries present in the occasion gave away the prizes of the Painting Competition among the School Children held at Iman Memorial Girls Academy on the eve of the Celebration.

More than 300 participants from 25 villages, HoDs of various departments in the districts, Forest officials, Biodiversity Activists, School Children and NGO representatives attended the programme.

 

3) Awareness Lecture series:

As a part of Celebration an awareness lecture series was also organised by the Board. Dr. Kenjum Bagra of APBB and Mr. Lobsang Tashi Thungon from North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli, Itanagar delivered lecture on Biodiversity Conservation as Resource person. A wildlife documentary was also screened during the programme.
